June 25 meeting:
President Billy started off with how proud he is of our club and what we've accomplished this year -- serving our community, providing scholarships, helping people.
Our speaker was one of our own local kids, Chris Merle. Chris is the son of Hugh Merle, was an active volunteer at our club events as a student and an Eagle Scout in President Billy's troop. After graduating WHB high school he attended the University of Virginia to play lacrosse, winning National Championships in 2019 and 2021. Chris is now a professional lacrosse player (defensive midfield) with the California Redwoods and works a full time job in NYC as well. It's good to be young, isn't it?
He shared motivational points given to the UVA team by a Navy Seal:
- The obstacle is the way
- Pressure is a privilege
- Calm breeds calm
- Study the plan, know the plan, <****> the plan (you had to be there)
- Be in the present moment at all times
- Accountability
- Embrace your role, "sweep the sheds"
- Great leaders clearly set expectations
Roundtable discussion followed with President Billy asking for input from everyone at the meeting:
Golf outing committee meetings will begin soon
Food pantry committee meetings soon as well
Discussion about attracting new members, younger members: networking, happy hours, and contacting all our scholarship recipients
Everyone in agreement that Billy's doing a terrific job and we're grateful he's staying on another year at the helm.
Our meeting on July 9th will be our installation of the 2024-2025 officers and board at Baby Moon.
From President Billy:
Please strongly consider coming to the yearly Installation Dinner which will take place at our favorite "Stomping Ground" The Baby Moon. We are sticking with our usual 5 PM start time but we will not be having a Board meeting.
The Dinner is being underwritten by one of our sponsors and all your Significant others are welcome to join in the festivities.
The only thing I ask if you could bring a few bucks for Happy and Sad Dollars and a few extra dollars for the staff, but the meal and drinks are being handled by our sponsor.
Our own past president/current treasurer Jim Hulme (of Happy Accident) will provide some dinner music.
Please email/text President Billy if you and your plus one will be coming.
Check your calendar for the next date (Saturday July 20th) and join the crew for some outside community service! It's an hour or so on a Saturday morning. Get your steps in and your service!
Liz Lederer will deliver your donations brought to dinner meetings to the Little Free Pantry on Mill Road (near the Beach United Methodist Church). Dry goods, canned items.... that can be outside in the pantry cabinet. The ecumenical Food Pantry housed at Immaculate Conception Church needs the same, as well as toiletries, condiments, jelly, cereal, diapers. You can drop items off at the parish office during the daytime office hours 10am-4pm. (Corner of Ocame Ave. and Main St.)
